I am 29 and my cholesterol report is high. Does that mean I will get heart disease soon?

My recent blood test showed higher cholesterol than expected and now I am worried that I have already damaged my heart. I am still young, I do not smoke, and I exercise sometimes, but my family has a history of heart disease. Do I need medicine immediately or can I fix this with diet and activity first?

High cholesterol at a young age does not mean you will get heart disease soon, but it does mean you should take prevention seriously now. Your clinician will look at the full risk picture, including family history, blood pressure, weight, and lifestyle, before deciding whether medication is needed. Many people improve substantially with diet, movement, and weight management, but some need earlier treatment because genetics play a major role.
